"I've got the key to my castle... but whether I can unlock the door remains to be seen"
..."I've got the key to my castle... but whether I can unlock the door remains to be seen..."
The past week I have thought about this quote from my recent read, Little Women. While this book was written close to 200 years ago, one sentiment still rings true, EVERYONE has wishes.
But, having wishes are not all that simple (despite what we want to believe). To have desires and dreams to do what you want does not automatically give you your dreams on a silver plater. And by creating dreams of the future, you could be limiting yourself to opportunities you don't already know exist.
For example, when I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a fairy princess. Now, obviously, I have come to terms with the fact that I cannot, in fact, become a fairy princess. But it was an actual dream of mine when I was 6 years old. It goes to show that we don't know what to expect when it comes to the future, let alone our dreams, regardless of how normal it seems to us at the.
To put this into context, let's think about yourself in elementary school. When I was in elementary school I only knew what I was told. For example, while watching a football game with my dad, I was told with fervent passion "the blue and yellow team is the best!" and,"if you wear any green and white shirt in this house I will disown you!"
Of course it was not like that, but that was what it sounded like to me. I was told from my youth that I should go to the Yellow and blue school; and to my kid brain it sounded easy because I did not know literally anything about applying to college (Ohh.. the Naiveté). But now, while I am still applying to maize and blue, I have more reason to look out at other places. It is not just based on the color of their Jerseys in football games. Its not about where I was told I wanted to go. It's not just about where I wanted to go 10 years ago. Dreams can change, and change is the only constant in our lives. The only thing that doesn't change is our need to conquer them and work towards these illusive desires.
