Love at First Like: What is Satire Made Of?

 

What is Satire? What does satire do? When I think of satire I think of someone making fun of something through the form of art and literature. The "something" that authors and artists mock or highlight is usually an event, custom or habit that people around the world do that is either controversial or found to be wrong or unethical. 

Now let's look at the picture above. Banksy drew this mural on a wall in order to make a satirical statement on technology and human relationships. The mural is critical on the relationships that humans have towards each other and how technology is sometimes a crutch (Think about the times that you whip out your phone because out of boredom or awkward silence). The use of technology and its capability of ruining and inhibiting relationships during the modern day is accurately shown through Banksy's work and is excellently done. The way that Banksy explains the way that technology can distract from human interaction and become addictive is masterly done by Banksy and comes through clearly in a dramatic way.
